Medical Conditions in School
Some students may have a medical condition which needs to be supported whilst they are at school, they may also need some medication administered during the school day.
Parents/Carers have the prime responsibility for their child’s health and should provide school with all the necessary information relating to their child’s medical condition, any treatment they are undergoing or if there is any special care required.
School must be informed of any new or changing medical needs. If you need to inform the school of any medical needs, please contact the school reception, for the attention of the Medical Lead.
Medication in School
Students are not permitted to carry any tablets or other medication on their person or in their bags, unless it is an asthma inhaler, an Adrenaline-Auto Injector (Epipen, JEXT or Emerade), or supplies to support their diabetes if they have a diagnosis. We are able to keep spare inhalers, diabetes supplies and Adrenaline-Auto Injectors (Epipen, JEXT or Emerade) as long as we have a copy of your child’s asthma plan, diabetes care plan or allergy alert card.
Medication should only be brought to school when essential to the child’s health, and if it must be administered during the school day. Parents/Carers should ensure that medication is provided to school in its original packaging to the school reception, with the correct medication form completed, which is available from reception. Please note, we are unable to store ibuprofen unless it is prescribed to the student.
