Geography

Intent

The study of Geography enables students to develop a deep understanding of the world in which we live, both in terms of the natural environment and human interactions. Through exploring key physical processes such as volcanic activity, earthquakes, tsunamis, flooding, and hurricanes, students gain a robust understanding of the dynamic forces shaping our planet. Furthermore, they examine the impact of human activity on the environment, including trade, development, industry, migration, and how societies adapt and manage these changes.

By developing geographical knowledge and skills, students are equipped to make informed decisions about contemporary global challenges such as climate change, sustainability, and the use of natural resources. The curriculum encourages them to critically evaluate how humans interact with their environment and the responsibilities we share in managing the world’s resources.

Our curriculum ensures that all students become informed, thoughtful, and responsible global citizens, with an awareness of diverse cultures, economies, and environments. Through Years 7-9, students are introduced to key themes in both physical and human geography, providing a strong foundation for further study. This knowledge underpins their understanding of the world, helping them to develop curiosity, problem-solving skills, and the ability to engage with local, national, and global issues.

Our geography curriculum is inclusive, ensuring that all learners, regardless of ability, are supported and challenged to achieve their full potential. It is designed to promote high standards of geographical thinking and to inspire a sense of curiosity about the world that will stay with them for life.
